About Us

Who is ProSpect Scientific?

ProSpect Scientific Inc. is a specialty consultative sales business based in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. Our focus is provision of Raman spectroscopy systems to Canadian research laboratories in universities, government and industry.

The company has been a respected provider since more automated Raman spectrometers became available in 1996 and is a dominant supplier in the Canadian market representing Renishaw, who engineer and manufacture the world’s premier research Raman instruments.

At ProSpect Scientific, we differentiate ourselves from other equipment providers with deep Raman expertise aimed at providing the best configured system capabilities for the specific research needs of our customers.  We deliver superlative customer support and a trusted consultative customer relationship that goes well beyond the initial equipment sale.

Dr. Kelly Akers founded ProSpect Scientific in 1996 to equip university research labs with a new generation of Raman spectroscopy solutions.  Dr. Akers continues to be the face of the company today, as ProSpect Scientific has grown to embrace consultative supply relationships with a large number of  universities, law enforcement organizations, chemical companies and technology companies.

Dr. Akers completed her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at the University of Toronto, following graduate studies at the University of Windsor.  Raman spectroscopy was a primary tool in her doctoral research.  Dr. Akers is well known in the Raman spectroscopy field and has published in many refereed journals including “Science” and the “Journal of Physical Chemistry“.  She expanded her knowledge of industrial applications of Raman spectroscopy in her post-doctoral work in Devon, Alberta at the CANMET Laboratory (Natural Resources Canada).

Sustainability Practices

ProSpect Scientific has always been an innovator in environmentally sustainable practices. We strive to be energy neutral overall for both profit and social benefit.  Some measures that have been in place for several years in the ProSpect Scientific offices include commitment to LED lighting, Energy Star geo-thermal heating and maximum insulation throughout as conservation measures, and operation of our own PV solar project to provide electricity production matching our consumption.  In our operational processes we strive for electronic information over paper wherever possible.  We designed and constructed a small storage facility as a zero energy structure, with SIP (structurally insulated panels), solar thermal heating, passive solar heating, LED lighting and PV solar power. We aim to produce minimum waste with 100% compliance to local recycling opportunities.

We encourage our partners, customers and suppliers to support our environmental initiatives and develop their own.
